From Signal to Action: Bridging SHM Research and Autonomous Wind Farm Management

As wind energy assets grow in scale and complexity, the ability to transform monitoring data into reliable operational decisions is becoming increasingly important. Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) technologies generate vast amounts of information, but the real value lies in turning these data into actionable insights that improve reliability, optimise maintenance, and support informed decision-making.

This IntelliWind webinar brings together industry experts and doctoral researchers to explore how advances in sensing, diagnostics, and prognostics can help bridge the gap between research and practical wind farm operations.

The webinar will begin with an industry-focused presentation featuring practical examples and lessons learned from previous projects. Topics include:

  • Sensor deployment challenges in operational wind farm environments

  • Interpreting monitoring data under varying environmental and operational conditions

  • Translating monitoring outputs into actionable maintenance and operational recommendations

PhD Research Pitches

The second part of the webinar will feature short presentations from IntelliWind doctoral candidates working within the field of structural health monitoring, diagnostics, and prognostics.

Each researcher will present how their work contributes to the broader challenge of converting monitoring data into operational value, highlighting both the scientific foundations and the practical applications of their research. The session will illustrate how emerging approaches in sensing, machine learning, damage detection, prognostics, and decision support can address real-world challenges faced by wind farm operators.
